I have been waiting all this month to make enough money to make the last payment on my student loans. Every check I get, every twenty dollar bill I plug into my accounting software and run a new report, growing more and more excited as I inch closer to being debt free. Truly debt free.

Well, today was the day. I hit my crossover. For the last several days I’ve hovered at around $600, creeping ever so steadily up by 10’s and 20’s. I’ve been really watching expenses this month, too, making sure I don’t blow out any potential gain with an expense that could wait until next month.

About 4pm today, though, I made it. I crossed over $800 and within a few minutes of that I hit $900, and there are still more clients scheduled to come in today. As it stands now, barring any unforseen expenditure, I will be out of debt completely on the 30th of September 2012. I will owe no one (well, except the tax man for this year) and now I can shift from getting-out-of-debt mode to accumulation mode in my uber retirement plan.

It feels great! I can’t wait to actually see the statement from the government next month that says my balance is zero. $20k in debt paid off in less than 2 years. It’s a wonderful place to be.
