What a pleasant surprise. I remember a few months ago when I discovered this sequel to The City of Ember, and subsequently the other books in the series as well. I got really excited. As I said in the Ember review, I watched the movie when it first came out and fell in love with Lina and Doon and the whole idea of Ember and their escape. I’m often left wanting more after a movie is over, and this was one of those rare occasions where the story went on. I now look forward to reading the other two books. It was interesting to see DuPrau change up some of her writing mechanics in this book when compared to Ember. By the time you get to the end, she back to writing the old way again. Made me laugh a little.
I’m certainly getting more confidence in my own writing, and also learning while I read. Overall, this was an excellent sequel to a wonderful story – I hope it continues on with the other two.
