Movie Review: Edge of Tomorrow

While on vacation last weekend, I settled in and watched this movie. I had been waiting awhile for it to come out, so I was pretty excited when I found it a few days before I left.

Overall, it’s a pretty interesting movie. I didn’t realize it was a time travel concept, but it was a new spin on the topic, and I just love Emily Blunt (yeah, Tom Cruise is okay, too).

The movie certainly did not fail to deliver. Lots of action, death, though the aliens were a little on the strange side, and the story wasn’t nearly as in depth as I would have liked.

The ending made no sense at all, and, in fact, wouldn’t actually work. If Cage started resetting the day after getting alien blood on him, then getting alien blood on him after killing the Omega, would only reset the day and he’d have to live it all over again (before the major battle). Instead, it resets him on that day, but with a different spin, before he’s ever arrested, with all the aliens wiped out already. There is simply no precedent for such a reset. Of course, it was chosen so the main heroes would survive.

I don’t know what it is, but the last several years, movies seem to be really cheapened somehow. Not sure if it’s poor writing quality, over used plots, or I’m just getting older. No matter, this movie is worth watching. Just don’t get your hopes up, as it does not live up to the hype completely.
