In our next session, we’re exploring the different writing styles found in the Bible and why they matter.
The Bible is not written in one single style. It includes history, poetry, prophecy, wisdom, letters, law, gospel accounts, and apocalyptic writing. If we read every part of the Bible the exact same way, we can easily misunderstand what the text is saying.
So the question for this session is simple:
How do we recognize what kind of writing we are reading, and how does that help us understand the Bible more clearly?

Discussion Questions:
1️⃣ Before watching the video, did you think the Bible was written mostly in one style or many different styles? Why?
2️⃣ Why do you think it matters whether a passage is poetry, history, prophecy, or a letter?
3️⃣ Did the video change how you think about reading or understanding the Bible? If so, how?
4️⃣ Was there anything in the video that confused you, stood out to you, or made you think differently?

1️⃣ We read John 1-5 so far. How much did you get done? A little or a lot is perfectly fine.
Instructions on Reading:
1️⃣ 3 Highlighters of different colors.
2️⃣ Pick a book in the Bible and start reading.
3️⃣ Highlight with one color anything you agree with, a second color anything you disagree with, and a third color for anything that brings up a question. Write out all your questions before our session.
4️⃣ Bring your list(s) with you to the meeting.
